Gerardo “Gerry” Anolio Suarez joined the Paulist Fathers' novitiate at Hecker House in Washington, D.C., in August 2024.

Gerry is a native of Miami, Florida. He was recently a senior academic advisor at the University of Miami. Gerry holds a Master’s Degree in Performing Arts Management and a Bachelor of Arts Degree, both from Florida International University.

He explained that the election of Pope Francis encouraged him to look into the Jesuits, which would lead him to the Paulist Fathers by the way of Fr. James Martin and his work with the Out at St. Paul’s ministry.

“They all seemed to embody the pastoral message of Pope Francis, and I found that very attractive,” Gerry explained after getting to know the Paulists. “In a way, I feel that all of the religious pit stops I have made throughout my life have led me to the Paulists. I feel that I am very much in tune with their spirit of evangelization.”

Fun fact about Gerry: He worked at Walt Disney World as a stage manager.
